Our laboratory is certified by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to perform testing required by the Safe Drinking Water Act. The lab is equipped to analyze samples in accordance with:

  • National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System NPDES)
  • Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
  • Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA)
  • Clean Water Act (CWA)

Stewart Environmental Consultants, Inc. has performed hundreds of thousands of environmental analyses since the first laboratory opened in 1980.  Laboratory analyses include:

  • Inorganic analysis by wet chemistry techniques

Our laboratory encompasses over 3,000 square feet and is equipped with state-of-the-art analytical equipment to provide the highest quality in reliable analytical data. Our facility uses:

  • Thermo Electron IRIS Intrepid II, Inductively Coupled Plasma - Atomic Emission Spectrometer
  • Varian SpectrAA-640Z, Atomic Absorption Spectrometer with Graphite Furnace
  • Hewlett Packard Gas Chromatograph
  • Hewlett Packard Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer
  • Hach DR/4000U Spectrophotometer
  • Dionex ICS - 1500 Ion Chromatography System

Quality Control

Our laboratory utilizes a computer-assisted QA/QC program for monitoring analytical results. This program will calculate, perform the QA, notify the analyst of QA deficiencies, and post the results to our Laboratory Information Management Program for final reporting to the client. All data are generated and reduced following EPA-accepted protocols. Each analyst reviews the quality of his or her own work based on following an established set of guidelines.

Analyses are performed in accordance with EPA methodologies and include significant QA/QC checks to ensure the accuracy of the data. QA/QC criteria are evaluated, and analyses falling outside of acceptable QA/QC criteria are re-analyzed.

Sampling

Analytical results are only as good as the integrity of the sample provided, which makes sample collection a vital part of the overall process. We provide trained technicians to perform a wide variety of sample collection. From single grab samples to long-term composite samples using automated equipment, we have the staff, equipment, and expertise to collect samples in accordance with regulatory protocols.

Data Interpretation

The most common response from clients reviewing laboratory results is what does this mean? Since we are engineering consultants as well as a laboratory, we can explain what the laboratory results mean in easy-to-understand terms. Often, we provide consulting services to help clients solve problems identified by the test results.  Our consulting background is helpful in determining which parameters, analytical methods, and reporting levels are required to meet the client’s objective for the requested tests.
