James H. Stewart, PE, LS, CCE  
Chairman of the Board 

Jim founded Stewart Environmental Consultants, Inc. in 1985 and continues to serve in an advisory role for the company as Chairman of the Board. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1944 with a BS degree in Civil Engineering, and after two years of service as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy, he worked as an engineer and project manager for numerous construction projects in the western United States. Jim entered private practice in 1957 as a consulting engineer and land surveyor in Fort Collins, Colorado. In 1960 he founded Empire Laboratories, Inc, which specialized in geotechnical engineering and materials testing.The lab was sold to key employees in 1982 and exists today as Terracon.As founder of three companies in Fort Collins and over 45 years experience, Jim’s broad range of expertise in civil and environmental engineering provides a valuable resource for the company’s team of engineers and scientists.

David R. Stewart, PhD, PE  
President & CEO 

Dave is responsible for the overall management of the company.He is a registered Professional Engineer in Arizona, California, Colorado, Oregon, and Wyoming and is a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager. Dave keeps abreast of the latest technology advancements by participating in industry-related conferences and has authored numerous papers on topics ranging from hazardous waste characterization to delisting hazardous wastes. Dave actively serves on various committees including ACEC and AESF. He is founder and Chairman of the Board for BASX Systems, LLC, a company that specializes in wastewater treatment using a patented ceramic filtration device. Dave earned a BS degree in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University in 1976 and then went on to earn his masters degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Arizona. Since then, he has earned a masters in Business Administration and his doctorate in Environmental Engineering from Colorado State University.

Richard G. Patterson, PE  
Vice President & Operations Manager 

Rich serves as the company’s Operations Manager. He is ultimately responsible for coordinating and allocating resources for all of the firm’s projects, both laboratory and engineering. He oversees the company’s daily activities and serves as a central coordination figure for Stewart Environmental’s personnel and clients. He earned a BS degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nebraska in 1975 and is a registered Professional Engineer in Colorado. Rich joined Stewart Environmental in 1990 after serving as a principal and director of engineering for a 25-person consulting engineering firm for nine years.He provides quality assurance review of the firm’s technical reports,laboratory reports, and proposals. Rich has more than 25 years experience providing consulting engineering services in Colorado and has served as the engineer for the Northern Colorado Water Association for over 19 years.

Thomas S. Norman, PE  
Vice President 

Tom is the firm’s senior project manager in charge of engineering project coordination. He joined Stewart Environmental in 1988 and has been instrumental in developing the company’s asbestos services division. Tom earned his MS degree in Civil Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 1978, and he is a registered Professional Engineer in the states of Colorado, Arkansas,South Dakota, and Wyoming.His certifications include AHERA Asbestos Inspector and Management Planner and Asbestos Designer, as well as Lead-based Paint Inspector, Risk Manager, and he is a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager. Tom supervises the management teams in projects relating to compliance audits, asbestos, mine waste, environmental assessments, and risk assessments. Tom also serves as health and safety officer for the company and is involved with evaluation of risk exposure for clients.

Paul A. Stone, PG  
Senior Geologist 

Paul joined the Stewart team in 1992 and brought with him extensive experience gained by working with a variety of environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, and mineral exploration firms. Paul graduated from West Georgia College in 1983 with a BS degree in Geology. He is responsible for all phases of various subsurface investigations, including acquisition and interpretation of geologic, hydrologic, and chemical data. He serves as onsite manager of remediation activities performed on behalf of Stewart Environmental clients. His site experience includes activities at more than 90 Superfund sites as well as military installations, NASA facilities, industrial properties, and municipal landfills. He is Stewart Environmentals’ resident expert for above ground and underground storage tank investigation and removal, hazardous and mining wastes, and groundwater treatment systems. Paul is a registered Professional Geologist in Wyoming, Georgia, and Tennessee.

Robert J. Blinderman  
Senior Environmental Scientist 

Bob joined Stewart Environmental in 1989 with over 20 years experience as an environmental scientist. He holds two masters degrees– one in Industrial Science from Florida State University and the other in Zoology/Limnology from Colorado State University.Bob assists clients with technical and regulatory concerns of wetlands, groundwater studies, solid waste site closure, stormwater permitting, ASTM Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, Phase II subsurface investigations, and terrestrial and aquatic biological investigations. He is a Registered Environmental Property Assessor and a Certified Asbestos Building Inspector. Bob serves on various committees including the Larimer County Environmental Advisory Board and Colorado Field Ornithologists. He is a board member for The National Audubon Society.

Kathy L. Wakeman  
Laboratory Manager 

Kathy directs the technical activities of Stewart Environmental’s state-of-the-art analytical laboratory. She joined the firm in 2002 and brought 22 years of environmental laboratory experience with her, including an exceptional mix of skills in testing of water, wastewater, soils, and hazardous waste; QA/QC; and both organic and inorganic data validation according to EPA, USACE, and AFCEE protocols. Kathy earned her BS degree in General Science, and she served in the U.S. Army Reserve as a medical supply specialist where she received two commendation medals for outstanding performance. At Stewart Environmental, she is responsible for overseeing the laboratory QA/QC program, and she provides technical direction for the laboratory staff as well as data interpretation for clients.

Stephen E. Rogers  
Senior Environmental Engineer  

Steve joined Stewart Environmental in 2004 with more than 30 years of water, wastewater, and industrial waste treatment experience. Steve earned a BS degree in Biological Sciences from Drexel University in 1970 and an MS degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Colorado in 1989. Steve’s experience includes water quality investigations, feasibility studies, treatment facility design, training, and operator in responsible charge of numerous treatment facilities. He has direct hands-on experience with many physicochemical and biological treatment processes. His work experience has included supervision of state- and EPA-certified water quality laboratories and more than six years as the supervisor of the Denver Potable Reuse Demonstration Plant, a 1-mgd treatment facility converting secondary wastewater effluent into high quality drinking water. In addition to his credentials in engineering and science, Steve is a certified water and/or wastewater operator in Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, California, and Oregon, and he maintains OSHA HAZWOPR certification for work on hazardous waste sites and MSHA certification for work at mining sites.

Jennifer A. Hudson  
Chemical Engineer 

Jennifer joined Stewart Environmental in 2003. She graduated with a BS degree in Chemical Engineering from Colorado School of Mines and a Master’s degree from Washington State University also in Chemical Engineering. Her experience in design work includes engineering of unit processes for various projects for the Los Alamos National Laboratory and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory as well as clients in the private sector. She also has experience in plant emissions and design of equipment for emissions reduction. Recently, her focus has been on investigation of subsurface contamination and water and wastewater treatment for domestic and industrial uses including treatment processes and pipeline design, as well as biological solutions for contaminant reduction. She is experienced in state and federal regulations relating to environmental issues and compliance for various industries.

Randy R. Evans   
Project Engineer 

Randy’s areas of expertise include industrial wastewater treatment and regulatory permitting and compliance issues for clients. He is a specialist in waste minimization, industrial wastewater treatment, air pollution, and hazardous materials disposal. Randy works closely with clients at their facilities to provide hands-on assistance with governmental compliance and reporting. He earned an Associates degree in Mechanical Technology from Arapahoe Community College in 1980 and joined Stewart Environmental in 1990.

Brad E. Eaton, PE  
Project Manager

Brad is a registered Professional Engineer in Colorado and serves as a Project Manager, primarily for the firm’s water and wastewater projects.He graduated with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering in 1989 from Colorado State University.Brad has worked with complex automated pumping systems used in a wide variety of applications ranging from water and wastewater treatment to mine reclamation, snowmaking systems, and turf irrigation. His experience in the pumping and water systems arena has included the design, fabrication, construction, and field service of virtually hundreds of systems worldwide. Brad’s civil engineering experience includes an appointment with the Town of Louisville, Colorado as the water resource engineer with primary duties focusing on the raw water storage and conveyance system engineering along with management duties in water rights acquisition, administration, and accounting.

Dana L. Harris
Environmental Scientist

Dana performs multi-phased environmental site assessments, indoor air quality sampling, asbestos sampling, and water and soil sampling. He is a certified asbestos building inspector with experience in sampling techniques, abatement techniques, work practices, and regulatory requirements. Prior to joining Stewart Environmental in 2002, he served on an environmental due diligence team and performed baseline assessments at industrial facilities, environmental insurance liability audits, Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, remediation and construction oversight, and Brownfield re-development activities. Related experience includes asbestos surveys; hazardous material and waste management; underground storage tank removal and upgrades; and remediation of soil, groundwater, and other media contaminated by PCBs, solvents, petroleum, and other compounds.

Diane Keigley-Keith
Environmental Engineer

Diane performs general environmental engineering including remediation design, site assessments, environmental permitting, sludge delisting, and environmental management systems. She has over 15 years of project management, environmental consulting, and geotechnical engineering experience. Her environmental experience includes project management, surface water treatment for mine closure, air and groundwater monitoring, soil and groundwater remediation, regulatory compliance, hazardous materials management, toxic release inventory reporting, discharge permits, site characterization, database implementation, groundwater modeling, and pollution prevention. Geotechnical expertise includes quality assurance of major construction projects, enforcement of construction specifications, installation of geotechnical instruments, slope stability, and inspection of deep foundations.
